Description :
Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is an annual herbaceous plant originally from the eastern Mediterranean and has spread to India, China and the rest of the world. It is commonly used as a condiment or a spice. The fruit is used in traditional medicine to treat various pathologies such as indigestion, worms, rheumatism and joint pain. Indeed, coriander has been shown to have a wide range of properties (antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, appetite stimulant, aromatic, diuretic, refrigerant, stimulant, stomach pain control, tonicity, etc.).

Coriander fruits are particularly interesting because they contain both a vegetable oil and an essential oil fraction.
The fraction of vegetable oil resulting from an innovative extraction (allowing to preserve a characteristic very fragrant) will make it possible to integrate the composition of many cosmetic or pharmaceutical products as well as in food supplements.

Produced in the South-West of France, this new production could perfectly integrate the rotation of the farmers and generate added value on the farms as a contractual traced culture. By combining the capacity of the two cooperative groups Maïsadour and Vivadour to produce and process this new production and the research force of the LCA (Toulouse Agroindustrial Chemistry Laboratory) in order to develop an innovative transformation process, this work program should allow the marketing of an ingredient for industrialists in search of novelty.

Environmental gain
- This new production does not require significant phytosanitary protection because it has rustic characteristics. In terms of pesticide use, it will require less protection compared to a widely grown sunflower in our regions.
- It is a production well suited to our climate which resists well to the hot temperatures and to the drought. As such, irrigation by sprinkling is not necessary which makes it possible to conserve the water resource.
- Sustainable: this production set up and supervised by the cooperative will meet the specifications in terms of sustainability. Indeed, the land used for the cultivation of coriander will respect a certain number of criteria relating to:
O Protecting biodiversity
O Non-deforestation
O "Biological" or "reasoned" production methods
